The Elks National Foundation was started in 1928, with the premise that every cent contributed would
become part of it's permanent endowment fund, never to be spent or subtracted, and this core would continue to grow.
The Elks National Foundation Endowment Fund is distributed each year through our Scholarship Programs,
in funding the nationwide Drug Awareness program which reaches tens of millions of young people and their families,
in financial support for the Elks "Hoop Shoot" free throw contest where more than 3 million youths participate,
plus substantial grants to each of the State Associations to continue and expand their programs that help
the disadvantaged to lead happy and productive lives throughout America.
The Elks National Foundation appreciates your support in helping so many
underprivileged children and adults share the American Dream.
How does the Elks National Foundation help Nevada and Nevadans?
When you give to the Elks National Foundation, you're doing more than funding the Elks National Drug Awareness
and "Hoop Shoot" programs. You're doing more than supporing the Community Investments Program and providing
Emergency Educational Grants to the children of deceased or totally disabled Elks.
You're doing more than maintaining the Elks Veterans Memorial.
You're doing all that AND you're supporting Elkdom in YOUR state!
During the 2006-07 Lodge year, the Elks of Nevada donated $61,756.95 to the Elks National Foundation.
This year, the Foundation will give back the following:
These grants help fund our state's major charitable project, as well as other philanthropic projects.
Portions of these grants will also support our state's Drug Awareness Program,
"Hoop Shoot", Soccer Shoot and educational programs.
Most Valuable Student: $16,000.00
Legacy Award: $7,000.00
We will award a total of at least four "Most Valuable Student" scholarships to high school seniors from Nevada.
In addition, we will award up to seven Legacy Awards scholarships to children, grandchildren or stepchildren of Elks.
National Veterans Service Commission: $3960.00
These funds will help Veterans Service volunteers provide care and comfort
to hospitalized and homeless veterans.
Grand Total: $84,460.00
That is a return of $1.37 for every dollar the Foundation received from Nevada last year.
From it's inception in 1928 through March 31, 2007, the Foundation has granted a total of $1,335,934.61 to Nevada,
compared with Nevada's total donations of $1,211,830.36.
